My family and I just returned from our week at Villa Brisas Azules. It was our second trip to Vieques and we were a bit concerned that we might not enjoy the experience of this beautiful island as much the "second time around". Your lovely villa insured that this trip was even more enjoyable than the first. We arrived quite late and much to our great delight, Vicente had everything sorted out, including picking up our rental car. The following morning we awoke to one of the most beautiful vistas that we have ever experienced in our travels around the Caribbean. The villa was perfect in every way, including the comfortable furnishings, the open floor plan, the veranda and the fantastic pool. And finally, please let me say what a gracious host Vicente was. We will definitely return again next year..

My research group from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, their families and I had a perfectly wonderful stay at Villa Brisas Azules in October.

I've stayed on Vieques many times in the past eight years, and VBA is without doubt the most spectacular location on the most spectacular island in the area. I sat for hours on the back porch, watching the changing light play over the grassy hills that roll down to the smooth waters of the Caribbean coast. Anthropologists have speculated that the human mind is most inclined to just such a view: a high point, looking down over green grass and small trees, with water in the distance. It does a soul good.

We all were charmed by the carefully-chosen, elegant decor of the house that, combined with the expansive view to the south, created a clean sense of openness. The Infinity pool enhanced that sensation. And, since we were all astronomers, we were especially delighted by the incredibly dark night sky, which we eagerly explored with telescope and the naked eye.

I have to say that Vicente went far beyond the call of duty to make sure that each one in our group was comfortable and pleasantly occupied. He arranged for car rentals, for transportation to and from the airport and ferry, for a kayak tour of the BioBay (kayak is by far the best way to experience this 8th wonder of the world), and many other activities. When we found that the fish market in Isabel II was closed, Vicente somehow managed to track down a local fisherman, whom we personally met, and then showed us the best Viequense technique for cooking red snapper and lobster on the grill. And none of us will likely forget his recipe for perfect arepas.

The house was impeccably clean and well-appointed. On behalf of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UNC-Chapel Hill, I thank you and Vicente for your hospitality, and hope very much that we will be able to return soon to VBA as el Proyecto Observatorio de Vieques proceeds.

All best,

Our honeymoon spent at VBA was a magical experience. There was nothing like waking up every morning to expansive views of the sea, an occasional glimpse of wild horses grazing in the front yard and ending the day with breathtaking sunsets. We loved the feeling of staying in a spacious home that combines the luxury of a hotel experience with the personalization of having your own home. We found Vieques to be such a special place, from the secluded beaches, to the amazing snorkeling and smell of nighttime jasmine. We can't wait to return!

Talk to you soon,
